Sailtales Advertisements
Frequently Asked Questions
Please read our advice to advertisers and buyers
and our
terms of use
before using this service.
The Sailtales Advertisements service offers sellers
a unique way to reach buyers on the Internet. Advertise your marine leisure related items
for as long as you like. Sellers need to 'tend' to their advertisements to keep them live,
buyers always know that they are not looking a list of things that were sold months ago. Buyers and
sellers can communicate through SailTales whilst keeping their contact details to themselves
until they feel ready to disclose them. All correspondence is recorded in 'My Messages' as well
as in an email to each party.
How much does it cost? The service is free! That's
5
advertisements per member,
10
pictures per advert, unlimited on-line message recording using 'My Messages', unlimited editing and alteration and unlimited
advertising time as long as you return to 'tend' your advertisement within the
60 day period.
What can I advertise? Anything related to the marine leisure industry.
Boats, trailers, berths, anchors, clothing, rigging, books, charts, electronics, fenders even the galley
sink! So, as long as it's boaty, yours and legal to sell we'll advertise it for you.
What can't I advertise? Well ... anything not directly related to the marine leisure industry basically!
This is a site for people with an interest in boats and sailing so there really is no point in
advertising your house, car, 48 inch TV, caravan and besides, such advertisements may be removed by the
administrator because we want to keep it boaty.
How many advertisements can I run at a time? At the moment you can have up to
5
different advertisements running at any one time. And, don't forget, you can change your ads as much and as often as you like.
How long can my advertisement run? As long as you like.
Each advertisement is live on the site for
60 full days after you
first list it or any time you edit it. So, all you need to do to keep it live is come back and
edit it within the
60 day period! Simple. And it goes right to the top of the list every time you do this!
Why does my advertisement expire after
60
days? It is our experience that some other sites run advertisements for a fixed term which results in many
items still being advertised long after they have sold. We are not interested in cluttering up our site
with out-of-date listings. Our
60
day automatic expiry encourages you to revisit your advertisement and refresh it while you are trying to sell. It gives you a
chance to improve it and make it more appealing. As soon as you click 'Save Now' (even if you've changed nothing)
you instantly get another
60
days advertising time. Then, when you do sell and you're too busy spending the money to think about cancelling your advert,
No problem, it will soon be dropped from our lists.
What if I forget to 'tend' to my advert in time? Relax! All that happens is that your advert is
marked as expired and it is taken out of our listings. When you come back all you need to do is set it's status back
to 'active' and you instantly get another
60
days advertising time.
Why do I need to be a SailTales member?
The SailTales 'My Messages' service which keeps the contact details of both buyer and seller
private until you are ready to disclose them cannot work if you are not a member.
You can chose when you are happy to exchange contact details. You are completely in control.
Why do you re-size my pictures?
Whatever size and resolution pictures you upload we make a thumbnail copy and re-size the original to a maximum of
700 pixels wide or 700 pixels high whichever is most relevant to your picture. This is simply to limit the amount of server space required for each advertisement and to ensure that
pictures do not take so long to download that they put off potential buyers. You can send any size or resolution image
you like but for the best and the fastest results you should
reduce your pictures to our maximum sizes yourself before sending them to us.
