Advice to advertisers and buyers
Please also read our Terms of Use
before using this service.
Advice to advertisers
- Never give out your email address or any other contact details in your
advertisements. Potential buyers responding to your advertisements will
not know your email address.
- Report any abusive messages to
skipper@sailtales.co.uk
- Include at least one picture. People like to see what they are buying.
- Do not give out your bank details or any other private information
- Exercise caution when agreeing to meet potential buyers
- After you've posted your advert, take a look at it. Would it make you want to buy your item?
Is there enough information? can you find it easily? And, if no buyers are contacting you take a
critical look at your listing and see if there's anything you can do to make it more appealing.
- Remember that your advertisement will expire after
60 days so, if you want it to stay on the site for longer just make sure you come back and edit it in the
60 day period. You don't have to make any changes, just open it for editing, click on 'Save Now' and it will
be on SailTales.co.uk for another
60 days.
- Make sure that your title describes your item clearly I.e. 'Boat shoes, size nine, worn once' is far more useful
to potential buyers than 'Look! Best Bargain Ever!'.
Advice to buyers
- Do not give out any contact details in your first message to a seller.
Advertisers will reply to you through the site
- Report any advertisements in breach of our terms to
skipper@sailtales.co.uk
- If possible do not send or transfer money without seeing the item. At least make sure that the advertisement and subsequent 'My Messages' give you a clear understanding of the condition of the item.
- Do not give out your bank details or any other private information
- Exercise caution when agreeing to meet sellers
- Remember, the list of advertisements shows the most recently added or edited advertisements at the top of the list.
- The original image uploaded by the seller may have been of a higher quality than the one on our site. Please bear this in mind particularly if the advertiser refers to fine detail in the picture.
